Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is an umbrella term covering all therapeutic techniques that use water for relaxation or pain management. It is commonly used to describe spa therapies, but hydrotherapy is a diverse subject with modalities that bodyworkers can incorporate into their practice. Continuing education covers both spa therapies and practical applications for massage therapists.

In addition to brief overviews, massage therapists can find courses on using body wraps and water-assisted stretches. In-depth courses may cover how mineral baths and sea water can affect sessions, called balneology and thalassotherapy respectively. Using hydrotherapy as a form of self-care is also heavily emphasized and often the main focus of courses.
