Event Description

Ashi-Thai is an expression of traditional Thai stretches that have been modified utilizing the overhead bar system
and therapists’ body so no heavy lifting or bending occurs at the waist. This flowing and rhythmic approach to
Thai massage were developed for Ashiatsu therapists seeking to expand their barefoot knowledge and add more strokes
to their Ashiatsu tool bag. Ashi-Thai can easily be incorporated into a regular Ashiatsu session or can also be
considered as a stand-alone treatment. The Ashi-Thai workshop has been divided into two different modules, the
posterior module & the anterior module. The combination of techniques has been arranged following traditional Thai
energy lines and stretches for elongating and relieving tightness in commonly used muscle groups. Clients usually
feel more range of motion, less tension and an overall sense of balance and well-being.

About the Instructor

I love working smarter instead of harder. I knew I loved Ashiatsu from the moment I stepped up on the table for the first time. After years of steady deep tissue massage sessions my body was screaming for a more efficient way to use my weight, my spine, and my energy. I've been able to build a successful clientele and business with my ashiatsu practice the last 4 years, and it has increased my enjoyment in my bodywork practice significantly. I love to teach kinesthetics and embodiment practices, whether it's yoga, dance or bodywork, and I really enjoy the art of connective communication practices. It's my passion and goal to share the richness of ashiatsu barefoot massage with students as fully and beautifully as I possibly can. Asheville is one of the healing arts meccas in the South-East and a great place to visit anytime of year for arts, music, culture and nature. I look forward to meeting you soon!

Ashiatsu Massage

Few deep tissue techniques can work deeper than ashiatsu massage, a type of massage that uses the practitioner’s feet as well as hands, fingers and elbows to apply pressure. A typical ashiatsu setup includes both a massage table and ceiling-mounted bars that allow the practitioner to stay steady while standing on the table and applying targeted pressure with bare feet. It is an ideal way for massage therapists to reduce hand strain, and it can be performed with the client clothed.

Because ashiatsu is founded on traditional Chinese medicine, many ashiatsu massage trainings will cover energy meridians and mind-body balance, but not all courses take this approach. Some focus only on proper technique, safety and building your own strength and balance for better sessions.
