Event Description

This course is designed for massage therapists who want to learn how to get started using myofascial release in their treatments. This training will give students an understanding of what fascia is, where it is in the body, and how, using show steady pressure, we can create a myofascial "release." We will look at the most current research in this field to help us understand the mechanisms that underly the tissue changes we feel. This course will explain the principles of myofascial release and will allow plenty of hands-on time to make sure students have good tissue engagement and are able to perform the techniques well. Myofascial shearing techniques will be shown for the back, neck, arms, and legs.

Adrienne Permar, LMT

About the Instructor

Adrienne has been practicing massage therapy for over 12 years. She completed her initial training in deep tissue massage and spa therapies at the Vancouver School of Bodywork and Massage in 2009. In 2011, she returned to school to complete her 3000-hour Massage Therapy Diploma at the Vancouver College of Massage Therapy, and became a Registered Massage Therapist in BC, Canada. In 2015, she opened The Lymphatic and Massage Clinic of Vancouver, a clinic emphasizing manual lymph drainage treatment. She began teaching professional development and clinical practice at her alma mater In 2016, and continued teaching kinesiology, myology, and clinical massage theory and practice in Washington State before relocating to Northeast Georgia. She also holds a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University, a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training Certificate, and a Childbirth Educator Certificate.

Since she began learning about the healing arts at the age of 20, Adrienne dreamed of opening a massage school that struck a balance between clinical treatment and holistic client care. She wanted to avoid boring lectures and memorization and instead ignite a passion in her students for the mysteries of the human body-mind. Oconee School of Therapeutic Massage is the culmination of that dream.

Myofascial Release

A popular continuing education choice, myofascial release is a modality that aims to relax tense, constricted fascia surrounding soft tissue. Whether caused by overuse, inactivity or an underlying condition like trauma or disease, the constricted fascia can contribute to muscle tension, poor circulation and referred pain. Practitioners use a light touch and slow motions to “release” constriction in myofascial release sessions or as part of a routine. Expect to find both broad overview and targeted technique programs, including pediatrics, women’s health and approaching illnesses like fibromyalgia.
