Event Description

How often do your clients present with pain, discomfort or limitations in movement that leave you wondering where to begin treatment? Functional assessment allows a practitioner to make sound decisions about how, or if, a client should be treated. It is a process of gathering information, providing more data to use in clinical thinking and problem solving that results in quicker, more effective ways to help your clients. Detailed functional assessment is a critical tool in understanding a client’s pain and discomfort, identifying contraindicated conditions, and determining whether massage is appropriate. Utilizing a combination of visual, tactile and movement methods, functional assessment distinguishes the types of tissues or structures that may be involved, assisting the therapist in designing more focused, specific treatments. It also provides a baseline and way to measure progress through the course of treatment. Improve your clinical skills by developing competence in testing and treating musculoskeletal dysfunction of the pelvic girdle. In this workshop, you will learn a systematic approach that will help you develop the most effective treatment plans. We will cover the anatomy and kinesiology of the region, basic range of motion and Manual Resistive Testing, anatomically specific massage techniques, and clinical reasoning skills. This material provides a useful introduction to clinical massage strategies and deepens proficiency for therapists of all skill levels. It will enable you to help your clients with a wide range of musculoskeletal problems, and to work more efficiently to achieve greater results. This technique-oriented course will focus on Functional Assessment and Testing of the pelvic girdle in a direct, systematic, and simplified manner. This two day course will cover: • basic theory of Functional Assessment and Testing • specific testing skills for the hip • implications of structural alignment observations • how to develop highly specialized treatment plans to address dysfunction in the region, including  pelvic tilts and rotations, hip flexor and deep lateral rotator issues You will learn very specific and effective hands-on techniques for many structures involved in the pelvic girdle. We will include new and different approaches to some of the most commonly treated structures as well as musculature not generally covered in entry level trainings. These strategies will help your clients with a wide range of musculoskeletal problems, and help you achieve greater results!

Therapeutic Massage

In terms of continuing education, therapeutic massage is a catch-all term for any massage technique that does not fall under a broad modality. Courses in this area are often geared toward improving your overall massage sessions or teaching lesser-known modalities. You can pick up new techniques, learn to use new tools or take foundation courses in new modalities.

Practical anatomy lessons and treatment protocols for specific muscle groups, conditions, and areas of the body are the most common therapeutic massage CE courses. Interesting approaches like two massage therapists working in tandem and integrative massage, combining multiple modalities in a single session, are also taught. You may be able to find courses in resort massage and branded modalities as well.
