Event Description

Supine and Side-body training: It’s time to get more intricate: access more muscles in both supine and side-body positions! This intermediate ashiatsu class empowers the experienced barefoot massage therapist to work even slower, maintain long sustained pressure holds on trigger points or adhered layers of tissue, and deliver deep myofascial strokes to the anterior and lateral aspects of your client’s body. Supine and Side-body strokes will give you the tools to provide a comprehensive feet-on practice in the often forgotten, hard to reach areas of the body. We share how to work along the topography of our clients bones, and manipulate the length of each muscle and fascial chain. Intricate use of the ashiatsu support strap is a big focus in this class. This unique addition to the overhead ashiatsu bars allows us to work on variable angles and vectors with consistent, controllable pressure that prevents fatigue for the massage therapist. To attend this class, you must have attended one of the following classes: FasciAshi Fundamentals, Fundamentals Converge (this class is now discontinued, but still honored as a prereq.), or another continuing education providers beginner level ashiatsu course. Must show proof of attendance in a LIVE, in-person training that was at least 16 NCBTMB CE’s. Video audition may be required if your training is untraceable, or if it has been over 5 years.

Ashiatsu Massage

Few deep tissue techniques can work deeper than ashiatsu massage, a type of massage that uses the practitioner’s feet as well as hands, fingers and elbows to apply pressure. A typical ashiatsu setup includes both a massage table and ceiling-mounted bars that allow the practitioner to stay steady while standing on the table and applying targeted pressure with bare feet. It is an ideal way for massage therapists to reduce hand strain, and it can be performed with the client clothed.

Because ashiatsu is founded on traditional Chinese medicine, many ashiatsu massage trainings will cover energy meridians and mind-body balance, but not all courses take this approach. Some focus only on proper technique, safety and building your own strength and balance for better sessions.
