Event Description

This course will introduce you to the anatomy and physiology of the CranioSacral System through the Upledger practical hands-on “learning by discovery” method. You will learn advanced palpatory skills, fascial and soft tissue release techniques, and a concise 10-step protocol for evaluation and treatment of the entire body via the CranioSacral System. To supplement class instruction you will receive a fully-illustrated, comprehensive study guide.

Prerequisite Workshop(s):
Professional healthcare practitioner, student in healthcare program or graduate awaiting licensure/accreditation with experience in sensitive, light-touch palpation.

For those who wish to take CS1, and live in a state or province that does not require a healthcare hands-on license to practice CST, the following minimum study is required:

1. 80 hours of Anatomy and Physiology and 15 hours of Pathology. One way to satisfy this requirement is through the home study coursework, Upledger Health Science Essentials, http://shop.iahe.com/Product-List/All-Products/Upledger-Health-Science-Essentials, available through the London (Ontario) College of Osteopathy.
2. 4 hours of ethics, from an organization such as the American Massage Therapy Association, https://www.amtamassage.org/

About the Instructor

I am a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with degrees in Art and Occupational Therapy. In over 20 years as an Occupational Therapist, I have worked in custom seating and mobility systems, in outpatient and inpatient rehabilitative settings, in birth to three programs, in schools, and in private practice clinics. I have benefited from expert mentorship in both Sensory Integration and Craniosacral treatment techniques, and have achieved advanced certifications in these areas through extensive post-graduate coursework and study. Please see the "My Skills" tab below for further details regarding my training.

Scaffolding an activity for a child to experience success during a "just-right challenge"; partnering with an adult client in a craniosacral session along their wellness journey; helping parents understand their children a little differently; these and much more bring me joy. Supporting students and colleagues in growing their skills by acting as Teaching Assistant in Upledger Craniosacral classes every year, and as a mentor in the Upledger Mentorship program are also very rewarding.

Since establishing Journeys Occupational Therapy LLC in November of 2013, I have worked with individuals from newborn to 88 years of age. Over the course of my career I have assisted people with migraines, post-concussion, traumatic brain injury, anxiety, stress, depression, chronic pain, learning disabilities, autism spectrum diagnosis, sensory processing disorder, cerebral palsy, spinal cord injury, developmental delays, Alzheimers or other dementias, and more. Multiple-hands treatments (two or more therapists working with you simultaneously) are available on a limited basis. Please call with any questions.

Craniosacral Therapy

While there are many different approaches to the practice, all forms of Craniosacral Therapy (also called CST or cranialsacral therapy) are designed to promote a healthy central nervous system. The modality uses a light touch and can be performed while your client is fully clothed. Craniosacral therapy sessions are typically a stand-alone service.

The idea of manipulating cranial bones, spine, neck and sacrum or the flow of cerebrospinal fluid forms the foundation of most craniosacral therapy CE classes. However, some are based on the idea of essential energy pathways that run through the body. Courses in SomatoEmotional Release (SER), which uses the techniques of craniosacral therapy to help patients recover from negative emotions and trauma, are also available from some craniosacral therapy education providers.
