About the Instructor

Sharon is a graduate of the University of California with degrees in Education and Biology. She taught internationally in Europe and Asia as well as in the United States for more than 10 years.

In 1986 Sharon made a career change into the Wellness field. She attended Massage School both in Saint Augustine, Florida and also was a graduate of the Pittsburgh School of Massage Therapy in Pittsburgh, PA.

After graduating from Massage School, due to illnesses with her elderly parents she returned to California to care for them. It is there she connected with Dietrich Miesler of Germany the Original founder of the DayBreak Geriatric Modality.

Because of her teaching background, Massage Therapy education and deep interest in working with the benefits of massage in the aging and elderly, Dietrich scooped her up to be his teacher for his work. At that time he was only teaching about 6 classes a year in the US. After working, training and teaching with Dietrich a number of years Dietrich chose retirement and handed me ownership over to Sharon.

Sharon has been the Owner/Director/Educator since 2000. Under Sharon’s leadership since 2000 the organization is now know as Day-Break Geriatric Massage Institute. The Institute has both Beginning and Advanced Continuing Education Classes and now has four (4) additional Educators who have been trained by Sharon. She presents 40+ workshops coast to coast including International locations such as Montreal, Nova Scotia, Hawaii, Singapore, Japan and in 2013 Australia.

As well as teaching numerous weekend workshops she has offices in four different retirement communities that include residents in independent living, assisted living, long term care, memory units and hospice care. She sees 40+ clients per week from Robust to Frail in these facilities.

Sharon has contributed chapters in Massage textbooks on the subject of Geriatric Massage such as Touchabilities and most recently contributed the chapter on Hospice Care Massage in the 3D Anatomy for Manual Therapies from Primal Pictures Ltd. London. She has over 100 published articles on the subject of Geriatric Massage covering from Robust Athletic Senior to the Geriatric Frail Client in both medical and rehabilitation publications, and all of the massage profession periodicals such as Massage Magazine and is a regular contributor to the Massage Today.

Sharon has appeared on numerous TV and radio interview and has been very influential throughout the United States in getting massage included as an ongoing therapy in Hospitals and Senior Retirement Communities.

Sharon has been a Keynote speaker for the St. Vincent’s Hospitals Conference on Aging, of Massage for Seniors and the Elderly. She was inducted into the Massage Hall of Fame in 2012 as well as the Institute of the year 2012. She was also labeled Massage Teacher of the Year at the 2016 World Massage Festival.

When she’s not running the business and teaching, your can find her skydiving, white water rafting, and international cruising.
