In many parts of the world, Breast Massage is included in a regular routine to maintain healthy breast tissue. In the US, current statistics show that 1 in 8 women under the age of 60, and 1 in 4 over 60, are being diagnosed with breast cancer. As the incidence of breast cancer is on the rise, women are discovering the importance of breast massage to promote and maintain healthy breast tissue. It is now more widely accepted as a form of preventive or remedial treatment for many common breast issues.
The class we teach helps participants to become comfortable with the idea of Breast Massage. It explains its benefits, and helps you understand how vitally important it is for everyone.
After taking this class you will feel confident in performing breast massage on yourself, your clients, and in addressing various breast concerns people may have.
Our second class focuses on types of massage for post-surgical issues and complications following breast cancer treatments.

About the Instructor
SALLY SPURGEON, LMT, MMP, BCTMB
Certified Lymphedema Therapist
In 2007 Sally opened Thérapie with the goal of using her experience with massage to help others become pain-free. In 2008 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and goal became even more focused. Following her subsequent surgeries and complications, Sally found that certain massage, bodywork, and lymphatic drainage techniques were immensely helpful to relieve her pain and restore her range-of-motion. She developed ‘The Spurgeon Method’™ which helps women in their recovery from all types of breast surgery.
While volunteering at The Caring Place, Sally met many other women who had undergone mastectomy surgeries and who were still in pain, with restricted range-of motion, years after their surgery. They had come to believe that this was ‘the norm’ for breast cancer survivors. It became apparent that there was a huge need for this type of bodywork.
‘Breast Massage – The Spurgeon Method™ is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. This class is now available to massage therapists and health-care providers everywhere and the technique is used in the Ayurvedic Breast Massage offered in the Spa at The Chopra Center in Carlsbad, CA.
Sally is very grateful to the wonderful therapists and staff who have joined her at Thérapie and to the many women who have become her ‘breast friends’.
