Event Description

Ashi-Thai is an expression of traditional Thai stretches that have been modified utilizing the overhead bar system and therapists’ body so no heavy lifting or bending occurs at the waist. This flowing and rhythmic approach to Thai massage were developed for Ashiatsu therapists seeking to expand their barefoot knowledge and add more strokes to their Ashiatsu tool bag. Ashi-Thai can easily be incorporated into a regular Ashiatsu session or can also be considered as a stand-alone treatment. The Ashi-Thai workshop has been divided into two different modules, the posterior module & the anterior module. The combination of techniques has been arranged following traditional Thai energy lines and stretches for elongating and relieving tightness in commonly used muscle groups. Clients usually feel more range of motion, less tension and an overall sense of balance and well-being.

About the Instructor

I've been a licensed massage therapist since the year 2000. I received my first training in Ashiatsu five years into my practice and it changed by career from that moment on. I was working on large athletes at the time that wanted consistent deep pressure. I found myself fighting pain on a daily basis from the repetitive compression on my arm, hand and shoulder joints. I decided to see what Ashiatsu was all about out and fell in love with the massage style. Immediately I was able to free up back, neck and hip pain like never before. Not only did learning Ashiatsu extend my career it also increased revenues and attracted a whole new clientele. I'm very excited and honored to start teaching Ashiatsu in California. Our location in California is located at a very beautiful bed and breakfast in Livermore, oldest wine country, in California. We are excited to offer you an opportunity to learn in a calming serene environment. As your instructor, my goal is to make sure you excel at the basic massage techniques you can do with your feet, help you understand how to use your feet as a tool leaving you excited practice Ashiatsu and helping to recreate the best deep tissue Swedish massage.

Ashiatsu Massage

Few deep tissue techniques can work deeper than ashiatsu massage, a type of massage that uses the practitioner’s feet as well as hands, fingers and elbows to apply pressure. A typical ashiatsu setup includes both a massage table and ceiling-mounted bars that allow the practitioner to stay steady while standing on the table and applying targeted pressure with bare feet. It is an ideal way for massage therapists to reduce hand strain, and it can be performed with the client clothed.

Because ashiatsu is founded on traditional Chinese medicine, many ashiatsu massage trainings will cover energy meridians and mind-body balance, but not all courses take this approach. Some focus only on proper technique, safety and building your own strength and balance for better sessions.
