Event Description

Massage therapy brings us close to many people with a level of touch and interaction that requires a strong understanding of the risks of communicable diseases as well as best practice choices to avoid spreading disease.

In this course we will review terminology and pathology, and discuss many of the common pathologies that we see in the massage setting including lots of new and important information about COVID-19 as well as colds and flu, HIV, skin and fungal conditions.

Health and safety protocols, universal precautions, and precautions for the treatment room will be discussed.

Discussion based, questions are welcome.

About the Instructor

Amelia Mitchell, is a nationally board certified and licensed massage therapist, certified lymphedema specialist, NCBTMB continuing education provider, mentor, and workshop leader.  In 2006 she founded Alchemy Healing Arts Center in Annapolis, Maryland, a successful multi-therapist practice with a variety of hands-on specialties.

As healthcare professionals, all massage therapists should developing an understanding of HIV and AIDS. Knowing how to minimize your risk of exposure is important, but being comfortable around clients with HIV can be an enriching experience for both client and therapist.
