Event Description

Course Description: DeepFeet 1 is where your barefoot massage journey begins. This Introduction to Ashiatsu course is an intensive 30-hour certification program to be completed in a 4 week period remotely from the comfort of your home or office. You will be enrolling with a group of licensed massage therapists and be a part of your very own barefoot massage community.
Students will have lots of “feet on” time in this class and should expect a moderate level of difficulty during the first training session in barefoot massage, but with some adjustments and practice time, most discover that their feet are intuitive enough to deliver strokes with confidence. For more information about students’ physical expectations please see our FAQ section.
The emphasis during the 30-hour intensive course will be on DeepFeet methodology, body mechanics, barefoot application, contraindications, marketing, and certification. The barefoot massage techniques are western focused and include cross-fiber friction, effleurage, petrissage, compression as well as trigger point and myofascial techniques.
Each week students will engage with one another for peer to peer feedback and also attend a 1- hour Zoom meeting with a Certified DeepFeet Instructor. Students are required to set aside 8-10 hours of time per week to complete coursework and practice treatments.
The last week of the course will conclude with a 1-hour private practical examination done remotely with your instructor. Coursework includes video instruction, digital lecture, online quizzes, digital evaluation forms, video reviews, community forum & weekly instructor meetings.
Upon completion, the bodyworker will receive 30 CE credits and become certified in DeepFeet 1. In addition, the therapist will have enough barefoot skills and knowledge to deliver a 60-75 minute detailed posterior Ashiatsu massage session.
Ashiatsu Bars are required to participate in this training. The bar installation manual is provided once your deposit and enrollment have been accepted. If you need additional installation help we can schedule a video chat and provide consultation services for $50 per hour. For safety purposes, we will require a video to be submitted of your equipment set up one week prior to the course start date.

About the Instructor

I started my career as a massage therapist in 2011. Directly out of school I started my own practice and I quickly fell in love with helping others. Most of my clientele want to deep tissue work; however, about a year after I began I found that my wrists and lower back we’re in pain from attempting to deliver the pressure needed for affective work. I was heart broken to realize I was going to have to cut back on my clientele and it felt like my career as a massage therapist had a limit. Ashiatsu was a natural choice for my career. It hit a reset button and got me excited about bodywork again. Clients loved the deep and effective work and I was completely pain-free after four months of practicing Ashiatsu. My teaching studio is located right next to the ocean in Ventura, California. A walk on the beach is just a stone throw away. I am exceedingly excited to teach other massage therapists this modality. It is such a gift to watch students walk away with such a solid tool to transform their practice and relieve their lives from repetitive stress injury‘s. Throughout the course you will receive personalized one on one instruction and will leave class with confidence to provide a complete full body Ashiatsu session. I look forward to shining a new light on your career as a barefoot healer!

Ashiatsu Massage

Few deep tissue techniques can work deeper than ashiatsu massage, a type of massage that uses the practitioner’s feet as well as hands, fingers and elbows to apply pressure. A typical ashiatsu setup includes both a massage table and ceiling-mounted bars that allow the practitioner to stay steady while standing on the table and applying targeted pressure with bare feet. It is an ideal way for massage therapists to reduce hand strain, and it can be performed with the client clothed.

Because ashiatsu is founded on traditional Chinese medicine, many ashiatsu massage trainings will cover energy meridians and mind-body balance, but not all courses take this approach. Some focus only on proper technique, safety and building your own strength and balance for better sessions.
