Event Description

With the increased use of computers, tablets and smart phones, people of all ages are suffering from overuse injuries of the elbow, wrist and hands. In this class, massage therapists will learn specific connective tissue massage techniques to relieve the pain that results from this overuse. These techniques will teach you to dramatically increase circulation to the muscles of the elbow, wrist and hand to promote healing of injuries such as tennis and golfer’s elbow, as well as wrist tendon strain. You will learn to assess client’s range of motion in the wrist, and learn numerous stretches for muscles in the forearm and hand. In addition, you will learn to use tools to effectively treat the tendons of the thumb & fingers. Who should attend this workshop?

Ben Benjamin Orthopedic Massage Workshops are for massage therapists who want to increase their expertise and success rate in helping to relieve their client’s pain. You will learn how to find the exact source of a client’s pain and how to administer effective treatment. These workshops will give you the knowledge and understanding to make you a more effective massage therapist.

Orthopedic Massage

Orthopedic massage is a multidisciplinary, clinically-focused modality for approaching soft tissue injury, pain and dysfunction. Sessions begin with hands-on assessment techniques, move on to deep tissue manipulation and end on both strength building and stretching exercises. It is often a specialization discipline, but any deep tissue bodyworker can benefit from training.

Orthopedic massage courses tend to focus on one area of the body, such as a spine or shoulder, making a la carte training possible. Some courses cover specific stretching techniques or orthopedic injuries. You can take general courses or investigate modalities like the Henrickson method, which uses wave-like mobilizations while the client is fully clothed. Specialization in any modality demands intensives and clinician-level courses but will open up clinical opportunities for practice.
